Mediumship is a three-way connection between the medium, spirit and guest.  The connection is strengthened if the guest is open, curious and positive.  Ideally if you can take part of meditation or quiet time prior to the mediumship portion of our service it helps to raise one energy for a better connection to spirit.

Each medium can do their work slightly differently however they all work to bring spirit love ones and their messages.

A successful reading should be uplifting and leave you inspired.  If during the reading something does not make sense feel free to let the medium know and they can go back and get further information.  Please remember the proof of continuity of life portion is public demonstration so the messages are not as always as in depth as a private reading.

As Spiritualists we see mediumship as sacred and an opportunity for guests to have the evidence of eternal life and inspiration from the gift of verbal healing.  We trust combined with the healing of the message and your free will to choose what is right for you, you will leave our service touched by the “Love of the Universe”.

What is Mediumship?

Mediumship is the process of communication with those who live in the Spirit World through the agency of a medium.  Accordingly, a medium is a person who is capable of attuning to the vibrations of the Spirit World so as to relay spirit messages, present spirit teachings, channel healing, create inspired writing, art or music, or produce physical phenomena.

The development of mediumship requires many years, infinite patience and dedication.  Mediums bring solace, encouragement, healing, clarity, joy and love to people in need.  This is why mediumship is considered a sacred office.

Depending on how it is expressed, mediumship is classified as physical or mental.

Mental mediumship is subjective and takes places through the mind of the medium.  This is the type of mediumship that is demonstrated today in Spiritualist churches.  Mental mediumship occurs through perception or trance.

Perception refers to the medium’s faculties of clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and telepathy (see Terms).

Trance is a state of detachment from everyday consciousness that a medium can attain to allow spirit to speak using the medium’s own voice.  Spirit does not take over the medium’s body, but rather blends with the medium’s mind at a light or deep level of trance (see Terms).

Physical mediumship was prevalent in the 19th century and early 20th century.  It is rare today.  It takes place in the séance room and is objective.  That is, the sitters can observe and experience the phenomena produced.  These phenomena can be visual, audible, tactile and olfactory (see Terms for details).  Their production depends on the medium’s capability to produce ectoplasm (see Terms).

Visual phenomena include telekinesis (levitation, movement of objects, table tilting, apports), automatism (writing, painting and drawing, musical composition), independent phenomena (direct or independent writing, direct or independent painting, spirit lights), materialization (ectoplasmic hands, faces, full-body, transfiguration), technologically assisted phenomena (spirit photography, and instrumental transcommunication or spirit faces appearing on TV and computer screens and spirit messages appearing on computer print-outs).

Audible phenomena include percussion (raps), independent phenomena (direct or independent voice, spirit music) and technology assisted phenomena (electronic voice phenomena or EVP)

Olfactory phenomena are spirit fragrances and other odours, while tangible phenomena are spirit breezes and spirit touches.

Healing mediumship is considered physical mediumship, but it also has aspect of mental mediumship, such as absent healing.  Healing is the highest form of mediumship and deserves to be mentioned by itself.

A healing medium is an instrument for God’s great unseen healing force and, with the assistance of spirit helpers, transmits this healing force to a person in need.  Cures happen at times, but they are not guaranteed.  However, any person receiving healing will experience love, peace and comfort.   Most mediums also send absent healing to people who cannot be present.

 

By comforting the bereaved, encouraging the disheartened, channelling healing to those in need, bringing clarity to those in difficult situations and enlightening the seekers, mediums render a great service and are a blessing to humanity.
